SUMMARY:SOLD OUT Remember the Ladies: The Legacy of the Women of Stoneleigh
DESCRIPTION:This event is sold out. Please join us for a future event. \nJoin us for an unforgettable journey through time highlighting the women who lived and worked at Stoneleigh. Dating as far back as the 1680s\, historical records paint a vivid picture of the history of Stoneleigh through the years\, from its origins as a home to the Lenape people\, to its time as a Quaker settlement and active farm\, and finally as an estate to three prominent Main Line families. \nErin Betley of the Lower Merion Historical Society will present the findings of years of research into the women who shaped the story of Stoneleigh over many decades\, creating a legacy that can now be enjoyed by all as a public garden.     \nThe evening will include a presentation\, opportunities to view historic materials from the LMHS collection\, and a Q&A with Erin. This event will take place in the Main House at Stoneleigh\, and light refreshments will be served. \nThis program is presented in collaboration with the Lower Merion Historical Society.  \nPlease note: the inclement weather date for this event is Thursday\, February 19.

SUMMARY:The Garden in Winter: A Creative Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Spend some time during the quiet of the new year exploring the garden in winter.   \nDuring this workshop\, we’ll make quick forays from Stoneleigh’s heated Pool House into the gardens\, noting the barebones beauty of trees in winter while scouting for birds\, squirrels\, foxes—and even their tracks if we have a bit of snow. Then we’ll return to the warmth of the Pool House to write\, taking inspiration from the surrounding views\, which include bog gardens flanked by arborvitae\, white pine\, and hemlock.   \nJoin us to banish the cold and dark days of January with reading\, writing\, and Stoneleigh’s inspiration.  \nPlease note: the inclement weather date for this event is Friday\, January 16\, 10:00 – 11:30 AM.  \nAbout the instructor: Catherine Staples teaches creative writing in the English and honors programs at Villanova University. Her latest book of poetry\, VERT (Mercer University Press\, 2024)\, is available at Main Point Books in Wayne.

SUMMARY:Home for the Holidays: An Evening of Music and Cheer with Les Canards Chantants
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to present Home for the Holidays: An Evening of Music and Cheer. We’ve transformed the spectacular Tudor Revival-style house at Stoneleigh: a natural garden with beautiful decorations crafted from natural materials gathered from the garden. This special evening offers the opportunity to see the house and its festive decor at night\, aglow with the warmth of holiday cheer. The highlight of the event will be an inspiring musical performance by the acclaimed vocal ensemble Les Canards Chantants. There will be light bites and seasonal beverages. Celebrate this season with good food\, good music\, and good friends in an enchanting setting.  \nThis event is for guests 21 years of age and older.  \nAbout the performers: Les Canards Chantants is an American solo-voice ensemble performing renaissance polyphony. The ensemble has been praised for their ‘elegant vocalism’ (Philadelphia Inquirer)\, ‘finely tuned vocals\, robust singing\, emotional flexibility\, and sense of adventure’ (Broad Street Review)\, ‘brilliant and moving programming’ (Early Music America)\, and ‘liveliness and theatricality’ (Boston Musical Intelligencer). Founded in England in 2011 to explore the dramatic possibilities of the Venetian madrigal\, Les Canards Chantants is now based in Philadelphia\, where they have served as Ensemble in Residence at Glencairn Museum\, and present concerts of renaissance polyphony at home and abroad. They have toured in the UK\, Germany\, and China\, collaborated with such ensembles as Piffaro\, Acronym\, the Folger Consort\, and Parthenia Viol Consort\, and recently made their debut at the Indianapolis Early Music Festival. Co-directors Robin and Graham Bier both earned degrees in environmental studies as well as music. They share a deep love of nature that has inevitably led the group off the beaten path\, from performing underground\, to filming on the North York Moors\, to plumbing the depths of renaissance music’s love affair with birds\, animals\, and even insects.  \n \nWebsite:  www.lescanardschantants.com  \nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/LesCanardsChantants/  \nInstagram: @lescanardschantants  \nYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@lescanardschantants9770
