Stoneleigh is home to many different insects\, from tiny beetles to giant dragonflies. \nKids\, grab your favorite adult and join us on an insect safari in the garden as we search for bugs of all sorts. We’ll learn about their fascinating relationships with plants\, humans\, and each other. Afterward\, you’ll be ready to embark on an insect safari in your own backyard. \nThis program takes places outdoors and is intended for kids aged 3 to 8 but older siblings are always welcome to join in the learning. \nThis event is made possible with generous support from \nThe Kulicke Fund.

Join Kristen Ryan\, senior horticulturist and creative lead for Stoneleigh’s Home for the Holidays event series\, for a workshop all about bringing the beauty of the garden indoors as home décor. \nDuring this workshop\, you’ll learn about harvesting methods\, preservation techniques\, and other tips and tricks for creating long-lasting and stunning natural decorations. Part lecture\, part demonstration\, and part practical application\, Kristen will have you ready and prepared to start planning your holiday displays. \nThis workshop will have indoor and outdoor components\, so please dress accordingly. A handout of our “Lessons Learned” will be provided\, along with other instructional materials. Each participant will leave with a small bundle of flowers to dry and use at home.

She was immediately drawn to the movement and strength that yoga provided both on and off the mat. Christina started teaching yoga once her son entered elementary school\, and for the past 14 years\, she has guided many students in their yoga journey. Christina offers sequencing that is thoughtful\, meaningful\, and allows for inner exploration while guiding you through safe and responsible movements using body and breath awareness.

DESCRIPTION:Relax the mind and strengthen the body with an all-levels yoga class and meditation session guided by Christina Fittipoldi in the tranquil setting of the garden. The gentle pace will allow us time to linger in poses and build a deeper connection to the body using our breath. \nPlease bring a mat\, water bottle\, and any props you may like to use. \nabout the instructor \nChristina Fittipoldi’s yoga practice began after the birth of her son. She was immediately drawn to the movement and strength that yoga provided both on and off the mat. Christina started teaching yoga once her son entered elementary school\, and for the past 14 years\, she has guided many students in their yoga journey. Christina offers sequencing that is thoughtful\, meaningful\, and allows for inner exploration while guiding you through safe and responsible movements using body and breath awareness.

SUMMARY:Eco-Printing with Wildflowers Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join natural dyer and textile artist Laura Hricko for a hands-on workshop in the garden\, where the surrounding landscape will serve as both inspiration and resource. Using locally grown and native dye flowers and foliage\, this workshop will guide you through the natural dye technique known as “eco-printing” to design an organic cotton bandana and a silk scarf. As we work\, Laura will discuss the fundamentals of natural dyeing\, including fiber preparation\, plant selection\, and the unique qualities of plant dyes. While surrounded by the biodiversity that Stoneleigh’s gardens celebrate\, you’ll experience the magic of coaxing color from plants to create lasting prints on fabric and deepen your understanding of sustainable textile art. \nThis workshop is appropriate for all levels of experience\, ages 12+. \nabout the instructor \nLaura Hricko is a textile artist\, educator\, and lifelong Philadelphian dedicated to the conviction that art is transformative and capable of enriching the lives of all people. Laura’s artistic practice spans multiple fiber arts techniques including quilting\, mending\, embroidery\, and textile surface design. SUMMARY:Mindful Birding
DESCRIPTION:Mindful birding combines observing birds with mindfulness techniques\, creating a practice that incorporates heightened awareness. Labeling or identifying birds is not the primary focus. Instead\, the intention is to slow down and notice the world around us\, using birds as our guides. During this guided experience\, you’ll practice simple mindfulness exercises to engage sensory awareness while intentionally tuning into the birds surrounding you. \nTechniques and prompts accompany this gently guided walk and/or “sit spot” experience\, which strive to enhance our observation skills\, promoting a deepening of our experiences with birds around us. This in turn amplifies the multitude of benefits birds provide to our overall wellbeing. Participants will also be provided “Ornitherapy Journals” and select prompts to increase observation and awareness and provide a takeaway from the experience. \nNo prior experience with birds or mindfulness practice are necessary to attend. \nThe benefits of mindful birding: \n\nEnjoy a reprieve from life stressors and pressures. \n\n\nStimulate and promote a more positive overall wellbeing\, mind and body. \n\n\nGain enhanced sensory awareness (sight\, sound\, smell\, touch). \n\n\nBetter understand birdlife through intentional observation. \n\n\nEnhance \observation skills\, in turn building a stronger foundation for overall bird identification. \n\n\nIncrease self-reflection through birds and the natural world. \n\nabout the instructor \nHolly Merker has a background in art therapy but\, today\, connects nature and birds to achieve the same result of mental\, physical\, and emotional wellbeing through her work in nature-based wellness practices. DESCRIPTION:The Organ Historical Society (OHS) and Natural Lands present Friday Organ Concerts in the Main House at Stoneleigh. Join us for noontime concerts this fall featuring Stoneleigh’s mighty Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ. Local organists will perform a selection of sweeping musical pieces surrounded by the elegant beauty of the Tudor-revival style building. Come for the music and stay for the beauty of the garden\, which is sure to dazzle with autumnal color. \nabout the organist: \n \nConnor Fluharty is an organist\, pianist\, and choral conductor serving as the director of music at the Church of the Good Samaritan in Paoli\, PA. Connor earned his Master of Music in Organ Performance from Westminster Choir College\, where he studied with Daryl Robinson\, and also holds a Bachelor of Music in both organ and piano performance. Connor has taught organ at Lehigh University and often performs as a solo organist and pianist\, as well as an accompanist and continuo player. When not behind the keyboard\, he also sings in the bass section of the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir\, as well as with Princeton Pro Musica and other local ensembles.
