SUMMARY:Create Your Own (Recycled) Nature Journal - FULL
DESCRIPTION:This event is full. Please join us for a future event. \nConnect with the world through nature journaling. Join our partner\, Rose Rowe\, a naturalist at French Creek State Park\, for a hands-on workshop where we’ll be getting crafty. As part of our Learning through Art series\, this month’s session will focus on traditional bookbinding and the history of nature journaling. From cover to cover\, we will make nature journals ready to be filled with your unique observations and revelations. \nThis workshop is part of an ongoing series where we will be partnering with a nature journaling ambassador to explore and discover this mindful practice. Wisdom begins in wonder\, and we hope this series will inspire you to cultivate curiosity and creativity as you explore and connect with the parks and natural lands around us. \nMeet at the French Creek State Park’s Playground Pavilion (follow the link: 843 Park Road\, Elverson\, PA 19520). \nFrench Creek State Park is located within the Schuylkill Highlands Conservation Landscape\, a place-based partnership administered by Natural Lands and funded in part by a grant from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program under the administration of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources\, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.

SUMMARY:The Nature Record with Schuylkill Nature Center
DESCRIPTION:Join our partners at Schuylkill Nature Center for Environmental Education for their unique event hosting The Nature Record—the first comprehensive\, independent\, evidence-based assessment of how nature is doing in the United States and how changes in nature are shaping our lives\, communities\, and economy. \nThe public comment period for The Nature Record Assessment is open. Members of the public are invited to review the assessment and submit comments to help improve its clarity\, accuracy\, and usefulness. \nThis free\, public event will help shape the Assessment\, and will include information sharing\, Q&A sessions\, and collaborative round table discussions. \nCome talk with our authors\, learn about the report\, and share your thoughts. Add your voice to a public conversation with the authors of The Nature Record Assessment. \nNatural Lands’ Events Coordinator\, Tianna Godsey\, will share a reading of one of her nature-themed poems\, “decomposition of a tree\,” after the presentation and before participation sessions. \n– \nThis event is in partnership with Accessing Urban Nature Initiative and The Nature Record.\nAccessing Urban Nature Initiative (AUNI) connects Philadelphia residents with the city’s hidden wildlife through a network of motion-triggered trail cameras in local green spaces. Partnering with community groups\, parks\, and wildlife refuges\, AUNI captures captivating images of urban animals to inspire curiosity\, outdoor exploration\, and environmental stewardship. As an ongoing research study\, AUNI helps us understand how wildlife thrives in the city\, guiding efforts to protect urban nature and biodiversity for generations to come. \nThe Nature Record is the first comprehensive\, independent\, evidence-based assessment of how nature is doing in the United States and how changes in nature are shaping our lives\, communities\, and economy. \nFrom March 2 through May 31\, anyone can review the draft Assessment and share input through a public comment portal\, or at virtual or in-person engagement events listed on the website. \nThe Nature Record examines the status\, trends and future of nature in the United States\, and how changes in nature are shaping our lives\, communities\, and economy. Nature influences the air we breathe\, the water we drink\, the homes we build\, the stability of our climate\, the health of our brains and bodies\, and the strength of our local economies. Even for those who don’t focus on  environmental issues every day\, these connections are constant and deeply woven into daily life. \nThe Nature Record is an independent team of nearly 200 leading scientists\, researchers\, experts\, and practitioners. Their work is rooted in science\, guided by communities\, and enriched by public participation. The Nature Record is creating a clear\, accessible picture of nature across the nation and the role it plays in everything from local economies to public health and community resilience.

SUMMARY:Spring Awakening: Forest Bathing for Wellness

Instructor Stacey Vinci’s gentle\, heart-centered approach aims to soothe the nervous system\, rekindle the spirit\, and restore balance in a time when many of us move too quickly to notice the beauty at our feet.  \nAll walks are invitational and trauma-informed\, offering space for whatever you bring and however you arrive. We’ll close our time together sharing a calming tea tasting and light snacks—an unhurried moment to savor the simple gifts of the season.  \nAbout the instructor: Stacey Vinci is a licensed marriage and family therapist and a certified forest therapy guide through the Association for Nature and Forest Therapy. Stacey has been in practice for 14 years supporting individuals\, communities\, and family systems in generational healing\, growth\, and change. SUMMARY:Beneficial Beavers: Learning through Art
DESCRIPTION:Happy International Beaver Day! Join us for our second nature journaling session in our Learning Through Art series in partnership with French Creek State Park\, where we’ll be shining a spotlight on North America’s largest rodent. Discover the remarkable world of beavers through hands‑on art and nature exploration. \nThis creative program blends natural history and guided observation to help us understand why beavers are essential ecosystem engineers. Participants will enjoy a relaxed\, supportive environment as they nature journal their way through learning about these fascinating mammals and the habitats they transform. \nAll you need to bring is a notebook or pad of paper\, a pencil or pen (materials will also be provided if you don’t have them)\, and your curiosity. Together we’ll discuss what nature journaling is and how to get started for any beginners\, as well as beaver Q&A as we watch for them at Hopewell Lake and linger into the twilight. \nThis workshop is part of an ongoing series where we will be partnering with a nature journaling ambassador\, Michele Murphy\, to explore and discover this mindful practice. Wisdom begins in wonder\, and we hope this series will inspire you to cultivate curiosity and creativity as you explore and connect with the parks and natural lands around us. \nMeet at French Creek State Park near Hopewell Lake (follow the link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/paidLZevCi4TYQVD7) \nFrench Creek State Park is located within the Schuylkill Highlands Conservation Landscape\, a place-based partnership administered by Natural Lands and funded in part by a grant from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program under the administration of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources\, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.

Local organists will perform a selection of sweeping musical pieces surrounded by the elegant beauty of the Tudor-revival style home. Come for the music and stay for the beauty of the garden sure to be in bloom in all its springtime glory.   \nAbout the organist: \nSince 1997\, Vincent M. Ryan has been Minister of Music at Advent Lutheran Church in Harleysville\, PA\, where he directs the church’s varied ensembles. He has vast experience accompanying soloists\, ensembles\, and choirs including the Gospel Choir of Wittenberg (Germany)\, The Lancaster-Franconia Choral Singers\, The WordFM Radio Choir\, and the Souderton Mens Chorus. In 2016\, he participated in the premier Orgelfestwoche (organ festival week) in Wittenberg and has returned regularly. Since 1998 they have performed together in numerous communities in the Eastern United States\, including Longwood Gardens\, and internationally in Sweden and Germany.  \nMr. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in piano and a Master of Arts degree in organ from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). His teachers included James Staples\, Carol Teti\, James Dearing and James Jordan.  \nHe has composed or arranged over 300 works and is published by Lorenz\, Oregon Catholic Press\, St James Music Press\, Hal Leonard and Leupold Editions. His music has been heard on all seven continents.  \nHe is a champion of outreach for the pipe organ. He created (with Noel Kennedy) a coloring book\, “Meet the King\,” and has authored several published articles regarding the participation of children in worship. He is a steward of the Orgelkids organ\, a real portable pipe organ that one builds and plays and has demonstrated it for more than 4000 people aged 5-95.
