DESCRIPTION:Mindful birding combines bird watching with mindfulness techniques to develop heighted awareness and a deeper experience. During this session\, we’ll use birds as our guide to help us slow and more deeply notice the world around us. \nInstructor Holly Merker will offer prompts and techniques during this guided walk or “sit spot” experience. Participants will also be provided “ornitherapy journals” to have a take-away from the experience to continue their mindfulness birding practice. \nNo prior experience with birds or mindfulness practice is necessary to attend. \nBenefits of Mindful Birding: \n\nEnjoy a reprieve from life stressors and pressures. \n\n\nStimulate and promote a more positive overall wellbeing\, mind and body. \n\n\nGain enhanced sensory awareness (sight\, sound\, smell\, touch). \n\n\nBetter understand birdlife through intentional observation. \n\n\nEnhance your observation skills\, in turn building a stronger foundation for overall bird identification. \n\n\nIncrease self-reflection through birds and the natural world. \n\nAbout our instructor: \nHolly Merker\, our facilitator and guide\, has a background in art therapy but today connects nature and birds to achieve the same result of mental\, physical\, and emotional wellbeing through her work in nature-based wellness practices. The gentle pace will allow us time to linger in poses and build a deeper connection to the body using our breath. \nPlease bring a mat\, water bottle\, and any props you may like to use. \nAbout our instructor: \nChristina Fittipoldi completed a 200-hour vinyasa yoga teacher training in May 2015 and began teaching a wide variety of asana movement at multiple studios. Eager to dive deeper\, she completed the 300-hour teacher training at Main Line Yoga Shala in December 2019 entitled “Agni Moksha.” She enjoys guiding students mindfully through safe and responsible movement using body and breath awareness\, allowing students to journey within.

DESCRIPTION:Join us in collaboration with Morris Arboretum to learn how goldenrods and asters can add beauty and biodiversity to any property. After an indoor lecture\, we will move out into Stoneleigh’s gardens to explore the plants and their pollinators in the landscape. \n With their stunning flowers\, goldenrods and asters are two of the hallmark plants of autumn. Not only are they beautiful\, but these plants also support hundreds of insects\, from bees and wasps to caterpillars and butterflies. This late-summer pairing offers crucial support to native insects\, and blooms after many other species have already flowered\, providing both beauty and wildlife resources all the way through the fall. \n Stoneleigh’s Engagement Manager Samantha Nestory\, will lead this program. DESCRIPTION:Relax the mind and strengthen the body with an all-levels yoga class and meditation session guided by Christina Fittipoldi in the tranquil setting of Stoneleigh. The gentle pace will allow us time to linger in poses and build a deeper connection to the body using our breath. \nPlease bring a mat\, water bottle\, and any props you may like to use. \nAbout our instructor: \nChristina Fittipoldi completed a 200-hour vinyasa yoga teacher training in May 2015 and began teaching a wide variety of asana movement at multiple studios. Eager to dive deeper\, she completed the 300-hour teacher training at Main Line Yoga Shala in December 2019 entitled “Agni Moksha.” She enjoys guiding students mindfully through safe and responsible movement using body and breath awareness\, allowing students to journey within.

Please join us at another outdoor adventure. \nJoin natural dyer and textile artist Laura Hricko for a hands-on workshop at Stoneleigh\, where the surrounding landscape will serve as both inspiration and resource. Using locally grown and native dye flowers and foliage\, this workshop will guide you through the natural dye technique known as “eco-printing” to create either a set of two linen napkins or an organic cotton bandana and silk scarf. \nAs we work\, we’ll discuss the fundamentals of natural dyeing\, including fiber preparation\, plant selection\, and the unique qualities of plant dyes. While surrounded by the biodiversity that Stoneleigh’s gardens celebrate\, you’ll experience the magic of coaxing color from plants to create lasting prints on fabric and deepen your understanding of sustainable textile art. \nThis workshop is appropriate for all levels of experience ages 12+. \nPlease register by September 7\, so we can provide a proper headcount to our instructor. \nAbout the instructor: Laura Hricko is a textile artist\, educator\, and lifelong Philadelphian dedicated to the conviction that art is transformative and capable of enriching the lives of all people. Laura’s artistic practice spans multiple fiber arts techniques including quilting\, mending\, embroidery\, and textile surface design.
