Dating as far back as the 1680s\, historical records paint a vivid picture of the history of Stoneleigh through the years\, from its origins as a home to the Lenape people\, to its time as a Quaker settlement and active farm\, and finally as an estate to three prominent Main Line families. \nErin Betley of the Lower Merion Historical Society will present the findings of years of research into the women who shaped the story of Stoneleigh over many decades\, creating a legacy that can now be enjoyed by all as a public garden. \nThe evening will include a presentation\, opportunities to view historic materials from the LMHS collection\, and a Q&A with Erin. This event will take place in the Main House at Stoneleigh\, and light refreshments will be served. \nThis program is presented in collaboration with the Lower Merion Historical Society. \nPlease note: the inclement weather date for this event is Thursday\, February 19.

DESCRIPTION:The Organ Historical Society (OHS) and Natural Lands present Friday Organ Concerts in the Main House at Stoneleigh. Join us for noontime concerts this spring featuring Stoneleigh’s mighty Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ. Local organists will perform a selection of sweeping musical pieces surrounded by the elegant beauty of the Tudor-revival style home. Come for the music and stay for the beauty of the garden sure to be in bloom in all its springtime glory. \nAbout the organist: \nKevin J. O’Malia holds Bachelor’s (summa cum laude) and master’s degrees (with distinction) from Westminster Choir College of Rider University. His concentrations of study were in organ\, choral conducting\, and church music history. Mr. O’Malia is the Director of Music and Organist at All Saints’ Church in Princeton. Kevin also serves as an organist at Temple B’nai Shalom in East Brunswick\, NJ. Mr. O’Malia is extremely active as an instructor\, as an adjunct professor at several colleges\, and as a frequent clinician for the American Guild of Organists and the Association of Anglican Musicians. \nKevin has performed in the United States\, the United Kingdom\, France and South Africa. Many of his performances have been featured on radio broadcasts including National Public Radio production Pipedreams\, and on Radio South Africa\, Classic FM\, and its program ‘People of Note.’ Distinguished performances have featured cathedral residencies at St. Paul’s Cathedral\, London\, Lincoln Cathedral\, Christ Church\, Oxford; recitals and appearances at Notre-Dame in Paris\, St. Thomas Church\, Fifth Avenue\, New York\, Washington National Cathedral\, Grace Cathedral\, San Francisco\, the White House\, Princeton University Chapel\, and at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. \nThis past year\, Kevin played and conducted a residency at Exeter Cathedral in the UK. \n \nSchedule of organists: \n\nMarch 6: Kevin O’Malia \n\n\nApril 10: Vincent Ryan \n\n\nMay 1: Margaret Harper \n\n\nJune 12: W. DESCRIPTION:Are you puzzled by pruning? Confounded by coppicing? Perplexed by pollarding? Join Stoneleigh staff for a workshop in the garden to demystify early spring pruning. \nWith the expert guidance of a horticulturist\, you’ll learn winter pruning basics for small trees and shrubs\, as well as specialized pruning techniques used at Stoneleigh like pollarding and coppicing. Part lecture\, part demonstration\, this workshop will help you build confidence in your pruning skills and offer an opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion about pruning in your own garden. \nThis workshop will begin with an indoor lecture then move outdoors for pruning demonstrations by a Stoneleigh horticulturist. Dress for the weather and bring a notebook and writing utensil.

DESCRIPTION:The Organ Historical Society (OHS) and Natural Lands present Friday Organ Concerts in the Main House at Stoneleigh. Join us for noontime concerts this spring featuring Stoneleigh’s mighty Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ. Local organists will perform a selection of sweeping musical pieces surrounded by the elegant beauty of the Tudor-revival style home. Come for the music and stay for the beauty of the garden sure to be in bloom in all its springtime glory. \nAbout the organist: \nSince 1997\, Vincent M. Ryan has been Minister of Music at Advent Lutheran Church in Harleysville\, PA\, where he directs the church’s varied ensembles. He has vast experience accompanying soloists\, ensembles\, and choirs including the Gospel Choir of Wittenberg (Germany)\, The Lancaster-Franconia Choral Singers\, The WordFM Radio Choir\, and the Souderton Mens Chorus. In 2016\, he participated in the premier Orgelfestwoche (organ festival week) in Wittenberg and has returned regularly. He has sung with the Adam Rener Schola Cantorum in Strasbourg\, France and with the Gospel Choir of Wittenberg in Nairobi\, Kenya. \nFlutist Melissa Freilich and he are the duo Doppelflöte. Since 1998 they have performed together in numerous communities in the Eastern United States\, including Longwood Gardens\, and internationally in Sweden and Germany. \nMr. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in piano and a Master of Arts degree in organ from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). His teachers included James Staples\, Carol Teti\, James Dearing and James Jordan. \nHe has composed or arranged over 300 works and is published by Lorenz\, Oregon Catholic Press\, St James Music Press\, Hal Leonard and Leupold Editions. His music has been heard on all seven continents. \nHe is a champion of outreach for the pipe organ. He created (with Noel Kennedy) a coloring book\, “Meet the King\,” and has authored several published articles regarding the participation of children in worship. He is a steward of the Orgelkids organ\, a real portable pipe organ that one builds and plays and has demonstrated it for more than 4000 people aged 5-95. He has also presented it for the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians (ALCM) and several AGO chapters. (Orgelkids is a project that demystifies the pipe organ for people of all ages. While assembling 133 pieces into a beautiful instrument\, students learn and practice all aspects of a STEAM curriculum as well as leadership and teamwork skills.) \nVince and his wife Carrie love spending time with their four adult children.
