DESCRIPTION:The Organ Historical Society (OHS) and Natural Lands present Friday Organ Concerts in the Main House at Stoneleigh. Join us for noontime concerts this spring featuring Stoneleigh’s mighty Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ. Local organists will perform a selection of sweeping musical pieces surrounded by the elegant beauty of the Tudor-revival style home. Come for the music and stay for the beauty of the garden sure to be in bloom in all its springtime glory. \nAbout the organist: \nSince 1997\, Vincent M. Ryan has been Minister of Music at Advent Lutheran Church in Harleysville\, PA\, where he directs the church’s varied ensembles. He has vast experience accompanying soloists\, ensembles\, and choirs including the Gospel Choir of Wittenberg (Germany)\, The Lancaster-Franconia Choral Singers\, The WordFM Radio Choir\, and the Souderton Mens Chorus. In 2016\, he participated in the premier Orgelfestwoche (organ festival week) in Wittenberg and has returned regularly. He has sung with the Adam Rener Schola Cantorum in Strasbourg\, France and with the Gospel Choir of Wittenberg in Nairobi\, Kenya. \nFlutist Melissa Freilich and he are the duo Doppelflöte. Since 1998 they have performed together in numerous communities in the Eastern United States\, including Longwood Gardens\, and internationally in Sweden and Germany. \nMr. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in piano and a Master of Arts degree in organ from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). His teachers included James Staples\, Carol Teti\, James Dearing and James Jordan. \nHe has composed or arranged over 300 works and is published by Lorenz\, Oregon Catholic Press\, St James Music Press\, Hal Leonard and Leupold Editions. His music has been heard on all seven continents. \nHe is a champion of outreach for the pipe organ. He created (with Noel Kennedy) a coloring book\, “Meet the King\,” and has authored several published articles regarding the participation of children in worship. He is a steward of the Orgelkids organ\, a real portable pipe organ that one builds and plays and has demonstrated it for more than 4000 people aged 5-95. He has also presented it for the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians (ALCM) and several AGO chapters. (Orgelkids is a project that demystifies the pipe organ for people of all ages. While assembling 133 pieces into a beautiful instrument\, students learn and practice all aspects of a STEAM curriculum as well as leadership and teamwork skills.) \nVince and his wife Carrie love spending time with their four adult children. Join Stoneleigh staff for a workshop in the garden to demystify early spring pruning. \nWith the expert guidance of a horticulturist\, you’ll learn winter pruning basics for small trees and shrubs\, as well as specialized pruning techniques used at Stoneleigh like pollarding and coppicing. Part lecture\, part demonstration\, this workshop will help you build confidence in your pruning skills and offer an opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion about pruning in your own garden. \nThis workshop will begin with an indoor lecture then move outdoors for pruning demonstrations by a Stoneleigh horticulturist. Dress for the weather and bring a notebook and writing utensil.

O’Malia holds Bachelor’s (summa cum laude) and master’s degrees (with distinction) from Westminster Choir College of Rider University. His concentrations of study were in organ\, choral conducting\, and church music history. Mr. O’Malia is the Director of Music and Organist at All Saints’ Church in Princeton. Kevin also serves as an organist at Temple B’nai Shalom in East Brunswick\, NJ. Mr. O’Malia is extremely active as an instructor\, as an adjunct professor at several colleges\, and as a frequent clinician for the American Guild of Organists and the Association of Anglican Musicians. \nKevin has performed in the United States\, the United Kingdom\, France and South Africa. This special evening offers the opportunity to see the house and its festive decor at night\, aglow with the warmth of holiday cheer. The highlight of the event will be an inspiring musical performance by the acclaimed vocal ensemble Les Canards Chantants. There will be light bites and seasonal beverages. Celebrate this season with good food\, good music\, and good friends in an enchanting setting. \nThis event is for guests 21 years of age and older. \nAbout the performers: Les Canards Chantants is an American solo-voice ensemble performing renaissance polyphony. The ensemble has been praised for their ‘elegant vocalism’ (Philadelphia Inquirer)\, ‘finely tuned vocals\, robust singing\, emotional flexibility\, and sense of adventure’ (Broad Street Review)\, ‘brilliant and moving programming’ (Early Music America)\, and ‘liveliness and theatricality’ (Boston Musical Intelligencer). Founded in England in 2011 to explore the dramatic possibilities of the Venetian madrigal\, Les Canards Chantants is now based in Philadelphia\, where they have served as Ensemble in Residence at Glencairn Museum\, and present concerts of renaissance polyphony at home and abroad. They have toured in the UK\, Germany\, and China\, collaborated with such ensembles as Piffaro\, Acronym\, the Folger Consort\, and Parthenia Viol Consort\, and recently made their debut at the Indianapolis Early Music Festival. During this exclusive holiday “open house\,” explore the spectacular Tudor Revival-style mansion while it is decked with nature-inspired decorations. \nStroll through the home\, indulge in seasonal beverages and tasty treats\, and enjoy musical performances from local choirs\, instrumentalists\, and organists in a festive and cozy setting. \nToday’s event will include musical selections on Stoneleigh’s mighty Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ featuring a local organist and the The Crowtet – a French Horn Quartet. \nThe Crowtet \nFounded in 2024 after destiny brought them together in the same ensemble\, the Crowtet French Horn Quartet features four Hornists from Southeastern Pennsylvania whose passion and love for their instrument brought them together to share their musical message for all to hear and enjoy. While many may view the members of the Crowtet as mysterious and tricksters by nature\, they fearlessly soar beak first into the fray and perform a wide array of chamber music. Works include the classics that were brought forth by wise and prominent composers\, to popular and modern pieces that deliver that sense of nostalgia and delight.
