The Savoy Company returns for their annual summer performance presenting the hilarious one-act show that launched Gilbert and Sullivan’s career: Trial By Jury. This comedic operetta of legal absurdity will be staged along with a fantastic selection of some of Gilbert and Sullivan’s other greatest hits. \nGates open at 5:00 PM. Come early to picnic on the lawn or wander through the summer garden. Bring a blanket or lawn chair\, settle in\, and enjoy a delightful outdoor concert filled with wit\, whimsy\, and timeless melodies. \nPlease note: the rain date for this event is Sunday\, August 16. \nAbout the performers: \nFounded in 1901\, The Savoy Company is a Philadelphia-based 501(c)(3) non-profit theatrical organization that strives to promote community involvement and educational outreach while supporting eligible local charitable organizations through its annual production of one of thirteen extant works by Sir W.S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur S. Sullivan. \nSavoy’s membership represents a diverse group of volunteers drawn from the Greater Philadelphia area. We are committed to putting on the highest quality theatrical productions and sharing the artistic\, musical\, and cultural influences of Gilbert and Sullivan and their wonderful comic operas. \nThe Company offers opportunities for personal growth and community reinvestment for its members\, beneficiaries\, and audiences. Uniquely\, virtually all operations are delegated to and performed by committees and production staff consisting of Company members. Committee chairs and production staff are appointed each season by the sitting President. The committee chairs are responsible for directing and coordinating all efforts within the responsibility of their respective committees. In this way\, members are afforded an opportunity to share their unique skills both as performers & production staff as well as in their careers and endeavors outside of their responsibilities within the Company. \nParking: \nGuests who purchase a Stoneleigh Parking Pass will be able to park (1) car in the Stoneleigh guest lot at 1829 East County Line Road\, Villanova. This parking lot will also be available for those who need accessible parking. \nAll other guests will park at the Villanova Law School parking garage (located at 299 N Spring Mill Road)\, which is approximately 10 minutes’ walking distance from the performance location. More parking details will be provided during the week prior to the event.

SUMMARY:The Summer Garden: A Creative Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Spend some time during the slower pace of summer exploring the natural beauty of Stoneleigh. During this workshop\, we’ll make quick forays from Stoneleigh’s air-conditioned Pool House into the gardens\, noting the lush beauty of the plants in the height of the growing season. We’ll return to the oasis of the Pool House to write\, taking inspiration from the adjacent gardens\, which include bog gardens flanked by arborvitae\, white pines\, and hemlocks. Join us to revel in the final days of August with reading\, writing\, and some cool drinks. \nAbout the instructor: Catherine Staples teaches creative writing in the English and honors programs at Villanova University. Her latest book of poetry\, VERT (Mercer University Press\, 2024)\, is available at Main Point Books in Wayne.

This cool summertime gathering will feature an intimate performance by Anna Spackman. \nWe invite you to bring a dish to share and enjoy a potluck dinner with fellow guests before the concert. \n \nAbout the artist: Anna Spackman delivers a soulful acoustic performance with songs that will linger in audience’s heads and hearts. After performing her early songs at the Steel City Open Mic as a teenager\, she moved to Oregon for several years\, soaking up indie\, folk\, and R&B influences of the local music scene. Having returned to Phoenixville\, Anna has shared the stage with Amy Correia\, Lucy Kaplansky\, and Chris Pureka. Anna’s soaring vocals and complex musical landscapes pay tribute to songwriters such as Joni Mitchell\, Shawn Colvin\, and Ani DiFranco. Anna has four albums and one EP available on all streaming services\, and bonus tracks up on her Bandcamp. Her newer songs explore hope and resilience in the face of oppressive systems\, and seek to connect us back to ourselves and one another.

DESCRIPTION:Connect with the wonders of nature—and share the magic you see through your lens. \nNatural Lands invites photographers of all skill levels to participate in the second annual “Through the Wild Lens” photo contest\, celebrating the beauty\, biodiversity\, and serenity of Mariton Wildlife Sanctuary in Easton\, PA. Whether it’s a fleeting moment of wildlife\, a quiet landscape\, or a close-up marvel of the forest\, we want to see what makes Mariton special to you. \nWhat we’re seeking: \nSubmit a single\, original photo that reflects your unique connection to Mariton. Themes may include (but aren’t limited to): \n\nLandscape photography\nWildlife in action\nMacro and detail photography\nEnvironmental storytelling\n\nLet your lens tell the story of Mariton’s wild\, subtle\, and serene spirit. \nShowcase & Celebration: \nSelected photographs will be featured in a special gallery exhibit along the trails of Mariton\, online\, and across our social media platforms. The overall winning photo will receive special recognition and will be framed and displayed at the Nature Center for a limited time. \nWe’ll celebrate with an Open House Showcase in early summer 2027 (date/time TBD)\, where photographers\, community members\, and nature lovers are invited to enjoy the exhibit and connect with others inspired by the sanctuary. \nDeadline to Submit: Saturday\, February 13\, 2027 (midnight) \nQuestions?
