Serpentine Barrens Tour with Willistown Township

Join Natural Lands and our partners Willistown Township staff to learn about this unique ecosystem.
We’ll be taking a guided tour of the Serpentine Barrens at Serpentine & Willisbrook Preserves, hosted by expert Willisbrook Preserve Manager Erin Smith. Designed for Willistown Township residents and neighbors, this tour introduces the rare ecosystems that come alive each autumn with unique native plants and wildlife. Erin will share the geological history of the barrens, highlight the specialized species that depend on it, and discuss ongoing conservation efforts for this important natural habitat.
For ages 12 and up. Space is limited – participants must be comfortable walking along wooded trails. Please leave your four-legged friends at home.
Rain date: Monday, October 12.
Park at the gravel lot prior to the soccer fields at 110 Line Road, Malvern. (Watch for Parking & Event signs upon arrival).

About the property
Willisbrook Preserve is a 126 acre mix of woods and grassland meadows, including just over 20 acres of a rare ecosystem known as the Sugartown Serpentine Barrens. These barrens support a variety of plant species, many of which are threatened or endangered.

Please park at the paved parking lot located at the Greater Chester Valley Soccer Association fields on Line Road, 7/10 mile northwest of Boot Road. If that parking lot is closed, there is a gravel parking lot at Willistown Township’s Serpentine Preserve, 143 Line Road, Malvern, PA 19355.
